About Adam Griffin

After working for over 19 yrs in conservation and land management I am now developing a private environmental consultancy. As co-founder of regional charity Moor Trees     I was inspired by Trees For Life and their ecological restoration work in the NW Highlands to look at opportunities for woodland restoration in the Dartmoor landscape.

Moor Trees

Moor Trees     is a conservation charity working in Devon to restore native woodlands. Moor Trees     involves thousands of volunteers each year in the growing, planting and after-care of trees. The need for respect for the environment is even more urgent than when I started Moor Trees     with Chris Layton in 1997 and trees in particular are pivotal to the health of landscape and ourselves.  Chris and I wanted community involvement to be a key element in how the organisation grew and developed and working in partnership with local authorities, government agencies, charities, voluntary organisations and schools has been key to developing the charity.

Estate management

For over 15 years, I have been involved in estate management. My portfolio includes a small estate in the Teign Valley that includes a wide variety of semi-natural habitats and the sharpham estate woodlands in the Dart Valley nr Totnes. Key elements of my work is to manage with long-term sustainability in mind.

Deep Ecology

In developing an understanding of the emerging ecological restoration network I became an active member of several 'wildland' networks and created Deep Ecology concepts of restoration for seminars and conferneces. These groups include the Wildland network and the Leeds University ESRC ‘Wilderness Britain'.

Creative outlets

Part of local South Devon performance choir Glorious Chorus singing original material.

Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM)

I am an associate member of the institute.

Established in 1991, IEEM has over 4,000 members drawn from local authorities, government agencies, industry, environmental consultancy, teaching/research, and NGOs. IEEM is the professional body that represents and supports ecologists and environmental managers in the UK, Ireland and abroad. It provides a variety of services to develop competency and standards in ecology and environmental management.

Millenium Awards Fellowship

Whilst founding Moor Trees     I won a Millenium Award as a 'Natural Pioneer' and became a Millenium Award Fellow.
